CrasH Talk

Schoolboy Q of Black Hippy and TDE released his fourth official album in late April.

It has been approximately two weeks since the release of Schoolboy Q’s ‘Crash Talk’, this album was highly anticipated by many Q fans after a long three year wait. We’re going to skip past the golfing, the fatherhood, and the mourning of former collaborator Mac Miller. Schoolboy Q mentions these topics in his music but there is much else to talk about, these are some of the things that create Schoolboy Q as a person, but lets focus on the content of the music and the delivery that was given. Rest in peace to Mac Miller.

Track for track this whole album caters to a wide spectrum of hip-hop enthusiasts, Schoolboy Q is able to find a balance of new generation rap as well as keeping a classic hip-hop boom-bap essence. We can always expect some super gangster shit from Q and he doesn’t disappoint. Features include YG, Ty Dolla $ign, 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Lil Baby, 6LACK, and Kid Cudi. Q was able to make songs with these collaborators without compromising either of their styles or his own. The Kid Cudi track brought me back to high-school, Although Kid Cudi simply hums in the song it is a perfect combination and addition to the song. (How much did you pay Cudi for him to hum on your song, Q? Bad Joke.)

The main characteristic we can appreciate about Schoolboy Q is that he follows his own curriculum that has its own sound. There aren’t many that can offer what Schoolboy offers, he can give you a classic feeling of nostalgia as well as giving you an updated feel to his original sound. The music/product speaks for itself, it is palatable and well manufactured. In today’s hip-hop climate this album is sure to thrive, it hasn’t even been a month yet and You-Tube views are up towards two-million.
