Soundset 2019

Soundset is the biggest hip-hop event in Minnesota. It brings in people nationwide and provides a platform for both local and main-stream artists. Soundset offers art, music, food, cold drinks, a custom car competition and lots of remarkable people to meet. Besides the good hip-hop music and cold drinks, Soundset is also dope because it helps shine light on the locals and helps organizations connect with one another.

The most hip-hop set by far was that of Beast Coast which includes: Flatbush Zombies’ Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice and Erick Arc Elliott, Pro Era’s Joey Bada$$, Nyck Caution, Kirk Knight and CJ Fly, and the Underachievers’ Issa Gold and AK The Savior. This is what happens when you take nine of New York’s finest MC’s and form a “super group”. They can some-what remind us of Wu-tang Clan with an updated swank. Beast Coast just released their debut album as a collective ‘Escape from New York’ so it was cool to hear a combination of their individual songs as well as the collective project. Another notable highlight at Soundset was having the legendary DMX make an appearance. He played a couple of his classic hits rocking his Randy Moss Vikings jersey and had the crowd going for the most part. It was nice seeing that even after all of this time DMX is still able to connect with the younger generation. Although he did his infamous rant of enlightenment (which is respectable), this is a music festival and we aren’t ready to be preached by pastor DMX. (DMX, there is a time and place for that!)
